Bird opticians was established way back in 1983, and we have been providing professional yet friendly service ever since. We are a Sheffield based opticians, and our practice is located right in the heart of the city in the shadow of the impressive Sheffield Town Hall building on Surrey Street.

Bird opticians – A Brief History

John Bird first qualified as an optician in 1963 and he became the youngest branch manager for Theodore Hamblin at the age of 22. Within five years he had worked his way up to becoming a director of Hallamshire Opticians and a director for D&A Opticians by his mid thirties. With 20 years experience Mr Bird decided the time was right in 1983, to set up his own practice and Bird Opticians was born.

Since 1983 Mr Bird has built up a very successful business and our team now includes a full time and part time optometrist (ophthalmic optician); three full time dispensing opticians (all of whom are registered with the general optical council; two full time receptionists, one part time optical advisor, two part time optical assistants and of course our Saturday girl.
